Jamshedpur, July 16: The Jugsalai Nagar Parishad area is facing a severe water shortage due to a significant drop in the water level of the Kharkai river. Residents have been receiving dirty water amidst efforts to address the crisis by increasing water supply from the Odisha Dam. Correspondence has been initiated with the Deputy Commissioner by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation to expedite the release of water from the dam.

A delegation from the Civil Struggle Committee met with Executive Engineer Sumit Kumar and SDO Jitendra Prasad on Tuesday to express dissatisfaction with the current water supply situation. Engineer Sumit Kumar assured the delegation that efforts were underway to improve water quality, including enhanced filtration and increased use of bleaching powder.

To normalize the water levels in the Kharkai river, authorities have requested the Deputy Commissioner to open a gate of the Odisha Dam promptly. Additionally, plans are underway to lay a 4-inch pipe from the RP Patel water tank to Safiganj Mohalla to alleviate the water crisis there. This initiative aims to install 60 HP motors at the intake well and treatment plant to improve water supply reliability.

Meanwhile, SDO Jitendra Prasad confirmed plans to replace outdated motors with new 60 HP and 40 HP motors at various locations including the Bagbeda river intake well and the water treatment plant. The installation of water flow meters in five tanks across Jugsalai is also slated to begin soon, following completion of all necessary formalities.

The proposed measures are expected to alleviate the water scarcity in Jugsalai, ensuring residents have access to clean and reliable water sources.
