Jamshedpur: A contract worker at Tata Steel, 42-year-old Y Jagdish Rao took his own life by hanging himself at Nitibag Colony in the Sitaramdera police station area. His body was discovered hanging from the roof of his house on Monday night. Family members rushed him to the hospital upon finding him, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Following a post-mortem examination on Tuesday, Jagdish’s body was handed over to his grieving family.

According to Jagdish’s uncle Anand Rao, financial troubles had plagued Jagdish for the past year. Jagdish, distressed over his inability to meet the family’s needs, had expressed his struggles to his relatives multiple times. On the fateful night, Jagdish returned home and was sought out by his family around 9 PM for dinner. Shockingly, they found him hanging from a shawl tied to a pipe on the rooftop stairs.

Anand revealed that Jagdish’s father, a permanent Tata Steel employee, had invested a substantial sum from his retirement funds into Sahara, leaving Jagdish with approximately 10-12 lakh rupees stuck in investments he couldn’t access. The financial strain escalated to the point where Jagdish’s 12-year-old son, Nikhil Rao, faced expulsion from Rajendra Vidyalaya due to unpaid school fees, a situation that deeply distressed Jagdish.
