Bengaluru: The investigation into the death of 34-year-old Pooja Datta, a private company employee from Jharkhand, took a significant turn on Tuesday. Police are now focusing on a male acquaintance who reportedly visited her residence frequently, following fresh testimony from the property owner.
New Lead: Frequent Visitor and Arguments
Pooja, a native of Hirapur near Dhanbad, lived alone in a rented house in the Adugodi area for three years. The house owner, Janakamma, informed investigators that a young man visited Pooja regularly and that the two often engaged in loud arguments.
“She was unmarried and mostly spoke in Hindi,” Janakamma stated. “I saw her a few days ago when she came down for groceries, but the young man’s visits were a constant occurrence.”
Discovery of the Scene
The incident came to light on Monday night after neighbours reported a strong stench emanating from the apartment. Upon breaking open the door, police discovered:
- State of the Body: Pooja’s body was in a semi-decomposed state and nude, suggesting she had been dead for two to three days.
- Crime Scene Details: Investigators found the victim in a pool of blood with clothes scattered across the room.
Police Action
The Adugodi police have registered a case of suspicious death and are currently:
- Analyzing CCTV: Reviewing footage from Munikrishnappa Layout to identify the male visitor.
- Digital Forensics: Examining Pooja’s mobile phone records and call history.
- Medical Reports: Awaiting the post-mortem results to confirm if the case is one of murder or suicide.
While the circumstances point toward foul play, officials maintain that the autopsy will provide the definitive cause of death.
