Two-and- half year imprisonment to Yogendra Sao

Ranchi: A Hazaribagh court handed down punishment of two-half-year imprisonment to former agriculture minister Yogendra Sao in a cold case of extortion.

The court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate Akhilesh Kumar pronounced the punishment for Sao.

It was pertaining to the case no 55/11 lodged at Giddi police station.

One Randhir Gupta has also been sentenced in the case.

In the case the managing director of Ramgarh Sponge Iron Factory Virendra Kumar had lodged a complaint of extortion of Rs 5 Lakh against Sao and others.

The SDJM has given a time till February 27 to Sao and Gupta for appeal in higher court.

It may be mentioned here that Sao is on bail from High Court in another case (no 48/14).

The case is related to giving protection to the criminal gang Jharkhand Tiger Group.
