Jamshedpur, Oct 28: A tense midnight encounter rocked Sidhgora’s Baridih locality when police confronted a group of armed criminals allegedly plotting a major crime.
The fierce exchange of gunfire, which took place around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, left two gangsters injured and three others on the run.

Acting on a credible intelligence input, a team from the Sidhgora police station swiftly moved in to surround a building near Baridih High School, where the suspects were reportedly holding a meeting.
As the police team approached, the criminals opened fire, forcing officers to retaliate in self-defence.

In the ensuing gun battle, two miscreants sustained bullet injuries — one of them identified as Gopal Kumar, who was hit in the leg, while the second suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Both were immediately apprehended and shifted under police custody to MGM Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

During a search of the encounter site, the police recovered two pistols, six live cartridges, spent shells, and several other incriminating items.
Initial investigations suggest that the injured criminals were involved in the recent firing incident at the residence of local businessman Hare Ram Singh, which had sparked public outrage and prompted a tightening of police surveillance in the city.

Meanwhile, three other gang members managed to flee under the cover of darkness. Multiple police teams have been deployed across Jamshedpur and adjoining areas to track down the absconding suspects.

Senior officials have confirmed that the encounter was the result of a planned intelligence-led operation, though no formal press statement has been released by the district police so far.

The development has once again highlighted the growing police crackdown on organised crime in Jamshedpur’s urban pockets, especially in the wake of recent incidents of extortion and targeted shootings.
“Our teams acted swiftly to foil a possible major crime. The operation will continue until all the accused are apprehended,” a senior police officer said
