Traffic Blueprint Unveiled for Durga Puja in Jamshedpur

One-way routes, 28 parking zones to ease congestion in festive days

Jamshedpur, Sept 24: With Durga Puja festivities set to draw massive crowds, the district administration and city police have rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan to prevent chaos on Jamshedpur’s busy streets.

The blueprint—awaiting final clearance after a survey by the deputy commissioner—introduces a slew of diversions, one-way routes, and designated parking facilities aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement during the five-day festival.

One-Way Traffic Corridors

Under the plan, several arterial roads have been converted into one-way corridors.

Vehicles coming from Mango towards Sakchi will now use the stretch via the old MGM Hospital to Sakchi roundabout, while the parallel road via the old court will remain open for two-way traffic.

Similarly, vehicles from Agrico heading to Sakchi will be diverted through Kumharpara and the Apex Hospital route to reduce bottlenecks at the roundabout.

Tatanagar–Burmamines route has  been realigned

Vehicles from the railway station towards Burmamines will pass through the old police station road, while those from Burmamines to the station will be funneled through the BPM High School and TRF route.

The Station-to-Kitadih-LBSM College Road has been marked one-way, becoming the sole route for vehicles heading towards Karandih.

The stretch near Sadar Hospital has also been restricted to one-way movement towards the railway station.

Additionally, the Sonari–Kagalnagar route has been made one-way to regulate traffic inflow.

28 Parking Hubs Identified

To accommodate the surge of pandal-hoppers and devotees, the administration has earmarked 28 dedicated parking lots across the city.

These include facilities near Sonari–Kagalnagar, CH Area, Kadma Ganesh Path, Bistupur, Jubilee Park, Ambagan, Sakchi, Burmamines, and Telco.

Each zone will be manned by volunteers and traffic wardens to prevent haphazard roadside parking—a perennial headache during Durga Puja.

Additional Crowd Control Measures

To bolster security and streamline movement, slider gates and drop gates have been installed at key check points, ensuring regulated entry and exit.

Police personnel in plain clothes will also be deployed in major congregation areas to monitor law and order.

CCTV surveillance has been beefed up at Sakchi, Bistupur, and Jubilee Park—three of the busiest festive zones.

Police & Administration’s Assurance

Officials claim the revamped traffic plan, coupled with expanded parking zones and security arrangements, will provide worshippers a seamless experience.

“Our aim is to balance celebration with safety. With coordinated efforts, we hope devotees enjoy the grandeur of Durga Puja without facing traffic hassles,” a senior police officer said.

Durga Puja, the grandest festival of eastern India, sees an unprecedented influx of visitors into Jamshedpur each year.

From the iconic Thakur Pyara Singh Dhurandhar Singh Puja in Kashidih to theme-based pandals in Telco, Kadma, and Sonari, every corner of the Steel City comes alive in a blaze of lights and devotion.

The administration’s proactive measures are thus expected to play a crucial role in keeping the spirit of festivity unmarred by gridlocks and congestion.
