Jamshedpur: Hundreds of labour leaders and workers participated in a massive “Labour Unity Rally” led by INTUC on International Workers’ Day. The procession commenced from the Tata Motors Workers Union (TMWU) premises in Telco, where TMWU President Shashi Bhushan Prasad and General Secretary RK Singh welcomed visiting union leaders with ceremonial stoles. Participants began the event by offering floral tributes at the statue of founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.
Labour leader Rakeshwar Pandey, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the responsibility of current leaders to maintain this glorious history and demonstrate to management that Jamshedpur’s unions remain united. He highlighted the origins of Labor Day, referencing the 1886 Chicago Haymarket affair. Citing the vigour of INTUC National President G. Sanjeeva Reddy, who remains active at 96, Pandey urged all members to maintain high levels of engagement. He lauded RK Singh’s leadership, noting that the success of large-scale events proves Singh’s skill as a labour leader.
General Secretary RK Singh called upon the members to take a pledge to stand by workers in their times of distress and difficulty, stating that the true significance of such celebrations lies in protecting labour interests. President Shashi Bhushan Prasad reinforced the message of solidarity and thanked the diverse group of labour leaders for their participation.
The “Labor Unity Rally” went from the Telco TMWU premises to the Star Company Gate, Tinplate, Sakchi, Bistupur, and Adityapur Chowk. The march ended at the Adityapur Auto Cluster, where leaders from various unions held a joint meeting in the auditorium.
