Jamshedpur : In protest against rising attacks on the traders the Golmuri Bazar Vyapari Samity, a Golmuri-based traders outfit, has decided to keep the Golmuri market closed from dawn to dusk on Friday.
In favour of the bandh the traders took out a procession. They protested against the failure of the police to arrest the criminals involved in firing incidents in Golmuri and Burmamines on the night of December 23.
More than 150 traders from Golmuri market and 10 people from the Sikh community took part in it. The Sikh protestors had come from Sidhgora where one of the two victims, Satpal Singh, hails from.
The traders delegation met the superintendent of police (city) Kartik S, whom they handed over a memorandum demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the assault on the trader Amit Agrawal.
One of the traders, Manoj Agrawal, who led the delegation, told the City SP that though 48 hours have passed since trader Amit Agrawal was shot at by criminals, the police have to reach to any clue.
Our city is gripped with criminal activities. We have gathered here today to express out anger against the police administration,” he said.
It is surprising several cases of murder and attempt to murder incidents have taken place recently and that too in the broad daylight but in none of the case the police has reached the miscreants involved in the cases, said Anil Naredi, a city-based businessman.
It may be mentioned that figures show a substantial increase in the number of murders, thefts and robberies taking place across the city from past one month.
Nonetheless the rising cases of crime in the city have forced the business community to raise voice against the detracting law and order situation for additional security arrangements. The police are yet to nab the offenders, but the business organisations have expressed concerns.
The 32-year-old trader Amit Agrawal was shot at four shots by two bike-borne criminals at Tinplate under Golmuri police station area late in the night of December 23. The criminals had snatched Rs 1,300 from the victim before shooting him. A truck driver Satpal Singh (45) was also shot at and injured near Tube Company gate in Burmamines, triggering fear among the traders.
