Jamshedpur, Dec 14: A training programme for law enforcers on National Tobacco Control Programme was organized at the Civil Surgeon’s office auditorium. Jawans of Jharkhand Armed Police Battalion – 6 attended the training programme chaired by Civil Surgeon (CS), Dr Sahir Pal.
Dr Pal spoke on the side effects of tobacco and urged that this addiction should be avoided personally and simultaneously all out efforts were to be made to deter people from forming the dangerous habit. “Tobacco and drug addiction affects us adversely but also contaminates the surrounding environment. We should desist from becoming addicts and motivate the others to shed craving desires for drugs and tobacco products. This awareness programme is designed to propagate healthcare.”
Instructor and renowned Psychiatrist, Dr Deepak Kumar Giri citing an example, explained, “If a person is coughing intermittently and finding it difficult to breathe, could be symptoms of Tuberculosis (TB). One should ask such a person if he is a tobacco addict and if he is, he can be treated by using nicotine replacement therapy.”
Dr Giri underlined that addiction to tobacco or drugs or even alcohol created mental and social problems. Trainer Dr Mohammad Asad informed that about 13.5 lakh persons died each year due to tobacco addiction. District Counsellor Moushumi Chatterjee urged the JAP -6 Battalion Jawans at the training camp to share the life threatening eventualities caused by addiction.
