Three youths arrested for stealing cell phones at Tatanagar railway station

Jamshedpur: Railway police have arrested three youths involved in stealing cellphones from the passengers at Tatanagar station and for buying the stolen handsets.Those arrested were identified as Mohammed Firoz (25), Prakas Das (27), and Mohammed Idris (26).

Inspector, railway protection force (RPF), Tatanagar, MK Singh said that on Friday night an RPF personnel posted on the CCTV monitoring cell observed a youth stealing cellphone from a middle-aged woman who was waiting for a train at the platform No 4.

“While watching CCTV the RPF personnel alerted his fellow jawans for nabbing the youth, who managed to escape before the railway police could nab him. But the RPF personnel on Saturday night around the same time spotted on the monitor the same youth moving around the platform No 1. Soon afterward he alerted the railway cops on platform duty for nabbing the youth,” narrated the inspector.

The youth divulged his name as Prakas, a resident of Gandhinagar in Bagbera. “We are grilling the arrested youth. The accused revealed that he had stolen two more cellphones from the passengers during the past week and sold them to two railway vendors Firoz and Idris, both residents of Parsudih, for Rs 500 each. We immediately caught hold of the duo and recovered the cellphones which they had bought from Prakas,” said the RPF inspector.
