Major Rail Expansion Projects Underway in Tatanagar Section: DRM Huria
Jamshedpur, April 5: Chakradharpur Divisional Railway Manager Tarun Huria on Sunday said that major steps are being taken to improve passenger train operations in the Tatanagar section, including the commissioning of a long-awaited third railway line within the next few months.
Speaking to the media at Tatanagar Railway Station after a meeting with MLA Saryu Roy, Huria said the discussion focused on passenger-centric services and infrastructure upgrades.
“We had a constructive meeting with the MLA and assured him that we are prioritising passenger convenience. Our efforts are focused on making transportation more passenger-centric, and we will continue to improve it further,” Huria said.
Highlighting key developments, the DRM announced that the third railway line between Adityapur and Salgajhari is expected to be commissioned within the next one to three months. Currently, only two lines exist on this busy stretch, leading to congestion and delays.
“At present, there are only two lines between Adityapur and Salgajhari, which creates operational challenges. We have applied to the Commissioner of Railway Safety, and once approval is granted, work will begin. We are hopeful that by July, the third line will be operational,” he said.
Huria explained that the addition of a third line will significantly improve train movement by allowing separate tracks for goods trains, thereby reducing interference with passenger services.
He also revealed that long-term solutions are being implemented, including the development of a dedicated freight corridor. “The dedicated freight corridor has been sanctioned and will pass through this route. In the future, most goods trains will be diverted there, ensuring smoother and faster movement of passenger trains,” he said.
Further, the DRM informed that work on the fourth railway line is also nearing sanction. Projects for expanding tracks from Chandil to Kandra and Kandra to Gamaria are already approved, with tenders issued for certain sections.
“In addition, surveys for fifth and sixth lines have been sanctioned. Once completed, further expansion will be taken up,” he added.
To address congestion at stations, the division has proposed constructing additional loop lines. “We have requested extra loop lines at various stations so that goods trains can be halted without affecting passenger trains. This will greatly improve punctuality,” Huria said.
The DRM acknowledged the current challenges in maintaining train schedules but assured that continuous monitoring is being carried out. “We have set up a dedicated war room where every passenger train is monitored minute-by-minute. Delays are analysed, and corrective measures are taken promptly,” he said.
He emphasised that the division is working tirelessly to reduce delays and improve punctuality. “It is not that we are lacking in effort. The situation is challenging, but we are trying our best and expect noticeable improvements very soon,” Huria added.
