Technical snag in TVNL leads to power crisis in JUVNL command areas

Jamshedpur, March 12 : Command areas under Jharkhand UrjaVikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL) are reeling under power crisis since last night after two units of Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Ltd (TVNL) tripped due to some technical snag.

JUVNL officials attributed the crisis to short supply from the central load despatch to the two major grid substations at Golmuri and Gamharia. The Golmuri substation received around 20MW against the normal supply of 45MW while Gamharia was getting 50-60 MW against 120MW.

Sources in JUVNL said that the sub-station was unable to distribute power resulting in electricity crisis at several areas . The most affected areas were Mango and Jugsalai localities, where residents had to confront with erratic power supply. The JUVNL consumers also complained of voltage fluctuations at several other places.

Amarnath Mishra, general manager of Jharkhand BijliVitran Nigam Ltd, which looks after power transmission said, ” The power crisis was due to the breakdown of the two units of TVNL, ” he said adding that power supply was expected to become normal tomorrow.

The shortfall of power due to unavailibility of supply from central load despatch prompted JUVNL with no option but to clamp blackouts throughout its command areas.
Almost all JUVNL command areas in steel city and its adjoining areas witnessed prolonged loadsheddings since last night.

The worst hit were Mango, Jugsalai, Adityapur, Parsudih, Chhotagovindpur and Sundernagar. Residents complained they had to go without power since night. The power crisis also resulted in water scarcity in Mango, Jugsalai and Parsudih as residents were unable to operate pumps.

Residential areas in Mango, Sundernagar, Parsudih and Govindpur were severely affected. Power supply was disconnected at 9am on Sunday and was restored at 3pm. We tried to inquire over telephone but officials were unavailable, rued Mango resident S.K. Sengupta.

For some consumers, power failure triggered water shortage. Water could not be pumped to the overhead tanks. We were compelled to fetch water from Jusco taps in neighbouring localities, Parsudih resident Anil Tiwary.
