Noamundi, Jan 16: Tata Steel Limited, OMQ Division, inaugurated its 34th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show at ME School Ground, Noamundi. The two-day event, running from January 16 to 17, brought together participants and visitors from Jharkhand and Odisha, showcasing an exquisite variety of flowers, vegetables and horticultural artistry.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Ruchi Narendran, Chairperson of the Horticultural Society Jamshedpur, accompanied by Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, General Manager of OMQ Tata Steel. Together, they toured the vibrant stalls featuring diverse floral arrangements and horticultural displays.
During the ceremony, awards were presented to winners across multiple categories, including the Garden Competition (Bungalow Category), local farmers, school students and horticulturists. Eminent dignitaries such as Shaileja Sundar Ramam and Surabhi Bhatnagar graced the occasion. Avnish Kumar, Chief of Mine Planning OMQ, delivered the welcome address, while D. Vijayendra, Chief of Noamundi, extended the vote of thanks.
Roshan Singh, Area Manager of Horticulture Mine Planning OMQ, noted the enthusiastic participation of 12 amateur contestants and 24 institutions. Competitions were held across a variety of categories, including chrysanthemums, dahlias, bonsai, potted plants, seasonal and cut flowers, vegetables and medicinal plants.
A major highlight of the event was the innovative use of waste materials, with school students crafting decorative items and products from waste plastics collected from Noamundi. This initiative underscored Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
“The show celebrates not only the beauty of nature but also the creativity and dedication of horticulturists and gardeners,” remarked Roshan Singh.
Through this vibrant showcase, Tata Steel Limited, OMQ Division continues to foster a culture of horticultural excellence while promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
