Tata Motors Targets 1 Million Commercial Vehicle Sales Post-Iveco Acquisition: N Chandrasekaran

New Delhi (IANS): Tata Motors targets annual commercial vehicle (CV) sales of more than one million units in the coming years as it prepares to integrate Italy’s Iveco Group, Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced on Monday.

Addressing shareholders at the company’s second annual general meeting since demerging and separately listing the CV business, Chandrasekaran stated that the proposed Iveco acquisition will significantly accelerate Tata Motors’ global ambitions.

“Together we will be in the range of 6 lakh vehicles to start and easily see us crossing 1 million vehicles in the years to come,” Chandrasekaran said.

The combined entity will launch with annual sales of around 600,000 commercial vehicles, immediately positioning Tata Motors among the world’s four largest commercial vehicle manufacturers.

Tata Motors expects to complete the deal—which currently awaits regulatory approvals—by the second quarter of the current financial year.

Chandrasekaran noted that the acquisition will grant Tata Motors access to advanced powertrain and next-generation technologies, strengthen its manufacturing and product portfolio, and significantly expand its international footprint.

“We will optimise, scale and grow to be ranked amongst the top four commercial vehicle entities globally,” he added.

Strong Financial Performance Backs Expansion

These aggressive expansion plans follow a stellar financial run for Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles. The company recently reported its strongest financial performance since it began operating as an independently listed entity following the November 2025 demerger.

To safeguard against market volatility, the automaker is actively reducing its dependence on the cyclical truck business by expanding higher-margin, stable revenue streams. Non-cyclical segments, including spare parts and servicing, grew 18.2% during FY26.

Additionally, deeper market penetration and major order wins propelled Tata’s international operations to grow by over 50% during FY26.
