Jamshedpur, June 15 : A 25-year-old Tata Motors employee was killed in a tragic road accident in the Parsudih police station area of Jamshedpur on Monday morning, triggering protests and a road blockade by grieving family members and local residents.
The deceased has been identified as Sumit Munda, a resident of Chandni Chowk. According to local residents, Sumit was riding his motorcycle to Tata Motors for his early morning shift at around 5:30 am when the accident occurred near the Salgajuri Hanuman Temple.
Witnesses said a speeding hyva truck approaching from behind attempted to overtake the motorcycle. During the maneuver, Sumit reportedly lost control of his bike and fell onto the road, coming under the wheels of the heavy vehicle. He died on the spot due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the incident. However, alert locals managed to stop the hyva at the accident site and informed the police.
On receiving information, a team from Parsudih police station rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The victim’s family members and local residents, enraged over the fatal accident, placed the body on the road and staged a protest, disrupting traffic in the area.
Protesters alleged that frequent movement of heavy vehicles on the narrow stretch has made the route accident-prone, and accused the administration of failing to take adequate preventive measures despite repeated concerns.
The demonstrators demanded the immediate arrest of the absconding driver, adequate compensation for the bereaved family, and stricter regulation of heavy vehicle movement on the road. Police officials assured the protesters that legal action would be taken and that efforts were underway to trace and apprehend the driver. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
