Goa college starts ‘marriage readiness’ course

A college in Goa has introduced a certificate course on marriage readiness for young adults. The program aims to help individuals build healthy, lasting relationships.
Goa College of Home Science launched the short-term course titled “Marriage Readiness: Preparing for Healthy and Lasting Relationships.” The Department of Human Development and Family Studies will conduct it.
The 15-day course will run from December 2 to 17. It aims to guide participants beyond wedding preparations into understanding married life.
College Principal Mahesh Pai emphasized that marriage readiness requires commitment and deep self-awareness. He stated that individuals must understand their partners to build successful bonds.
The brochure points out that people spend two decades preparing for careers. However, individuals rarely invest time in preparing for family life.
This educational initiative follows recent remarks by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. He announced state plans for pre-marriage counselling to curb rising divorce rates.
Official statistics reveal a notable surge in marital disputes across the state. Civil courts handled over 3,000 marriage and divorce petitions between 2022 and 2025.
The course targets undergraduate and postgraduate students alongside unmarried young adults. Anyone interested in relationship dynamics can also enroll in the program.
Instructors will cover topics like dating dynamics, self-awareness, and personal identity. Lessons will also explore masculinity, femininity, and the difference between weddings and marriages.
