Take back laid off labour within 10 days: Champai to Tata Steel LP management

Gamharia, Aug 28: JMM today held a demonstration at Gate 3 of Tata Steel Long Products Ltd in Gamharia today. The demonstration programme was led by JMM district vice president Amrit Mahto.

Specially present on the occasion, JMM legislator Champai Soren stated in his address warned the company management to take back all the laid off workers within 10 days failing which 50 thousand labourers, displaced people and villagers would block all gates of the Tata Steel ancillary units in the area and conduct large scale protests. He said, �The company (Tata Steel) is trying to enforce its anti labour policy in Gamharia too which it will not be allowed to. JMM had fought for the rights of the workers and will continue to do so. In Gamharia those people and families who have been displaced while the Tata group were setting up companies like TGS, TAYO, Usha Martin in Gamharia, have not been provided jobs. Even in Tata Steel works in Jamshedpur, local people have not been provided jobs. The Tatas want to colonize the Adivasis and the original settlers here as the British did.�

Champai Soren asked the children of the soil to unite and fight for their rights or else they would be denied what was due to them. He urged the company workers to enroll as members of the Audyogik Mazdoor Union (Industrial Labour Union).

Others who addressed the demonstrators were JMM central committee member Ranjit Pradhan, Gurucharan Mahto, Ramdas Tudu, Amin Mandal and others. Party�s district vice president Bhunda Besra, Krishna Baskey, Dipak Mandal, Avinash Soren, Shankar Mukhi, Dilip Gorai and other party executives and labourers were also present on the occasion.
