Jamshedpur, Jan 10: State Health Minister Banna Gupta Tuesday announced to give Rs 50 lakh under MLA’s local area development fund for the construction of Swarnarekha Aarati Mandap. The said fund would be utilized in the beautification of Swarnarekha Domuhani and Aarati Mandap, he said.

“Swarnarekha river is the lifeline of Jamshedpur. The responsibility of its conservation and beautification is on the shoulders of all of us. This river has religious and cultural significance for the people of the city. Being a resident of Jamshedpur, it is my duty to do something in return” said Gupta.

Gupta said he had directed the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum Vijaya Jadhav to construct Swarnarekha Aarati Mandap. He said the move would help turn Swarnarekha riverbank into a tourist hotspot and also convert it into a centre of employment generation.

The Minister said he would request Chief Minister Hemant Soren to extend government’s cooperation in the conservation and beautification of Swarnarekha. He said he would also seek similar cooperation from corporate houses and prominent businessmen of the city.

“Sanatan Dharma has great belief in the sanctity of rivers. In many parts of the country, aarati is performed to worship rivers. Ganga Aarati is a glaring example of this age-old devotion for rivers. We will construct a grand Mandap and create necessary resources for Swarnarekha aarati on similar lines,” said the Minister.
