Sudden drizzle increases chill in air, temperature dips in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Jan 29: A sudden drizzle in the city on Friday has brought a drip in the mercury making the weather chilly. According to the weather department, the winter this year is extended in the State. The daylong drizzle coupled with cold winds disrupted life in the city as people faced difficulties. The drizzly weather caused long tailbacks on the city streets even. Pedestrians had trouble walking on sidewalks and roads and many found their clothes mud-splattered.

An official of the Meteorological Centre said the climate change during the weekend would be the impact of a western disturbance, which is passing through upper latitudes.

Weathermen said since winter in Jharkhand was approaching its end, the mercury would start rising once the westerly wind subsided. “The breezy weather will calm down from Saturday, when a western disturbance will pass through higher latitudes,” said a duty officer.

He warned that the West Wind might make a comeback again around February 17-18, but for a short while.

Officials of the local weather department said that the sudden change in temperature is due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over Gangetic Bengal that resulted in rain. The Met office predicted that the squally weather conditions may continue for a couple of days with the depression threatening to strengthen further.

““The cyclonic circulation has also affected the wind pattern. Till last evening, north-westerly winds were dominating over the State, but due to the impact of the cyclonic circulation, the wind pattern changed to easterly, which usually helps raising night temperatures,” explained a senior official of local Met office.
