Jugsalai Civic Collapse: Congress Warns of Dengue & Malaria Outbreaks

Jamshedpur: A delegation led by Congress leader and Jugsalai Municipal Council Chairman Santosh Sinha met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Wednesday to submit a memorandum protesting the systemic breakdown of basic civic amenities in the Jugsalai municipal area. The delegation voiced grave concerns over collapsing waste management, non-functional streetlights, clogged drainage networks, and a severe surge in the mosquito population.

Sinha noted that the local door-to-door garbage collection system has collapsed entirely, leading to massive mounds of uncollected waste accumulating across several neighbourhoods. Despite the arrival of the monsoon, the municipal council’s failure to desilt major drains has triggered widespread waterlogging, causing severe disruption to residents.

Rising Vector-Borne Threat Triggered by Neglect

Congress leader Jyoti Kumar Mishra and other delegation members warned that prolonged waterlogging and unmanaged filth have accelerated mosquito breeding, creating a high risk for outbreaks of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. The delegation has demanded an immediate, extensive fogging campaign and the systematic spraying of bleaching powder across all affected sectors.

In parallel, local representative Mahesh Khirwal highlighted that critical streetlights on several major arterial lanes have been broken for months, plunging key neighborhoods into complete darkness after sunset. The lack of functional lighting has raised serious safety and security concerns for residents, particularly women and the elderly.

Ultimatum Issued Over Civic Action

The delegation has demanded that the Jugsalai Municipal Council start door-to-door garbage collection, execute drain cleaning, launch an anti-mosquito fogging drive, and repair the defunct streetlight grid across all wards.

Congress leader Vijay Pandey warned that if the municipal administration fails to take swift corrective action, the party will mobilize local residents to launch a series of public agitations.
