Jamshedpur: A group of 40 students comprises of three branches – B. Tach, Biotechnology and Polytechnic from Arka Jain University, Jamshedpur accompanied by two faculties, Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh, Ranjeet Kumar visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur and interacted with scientists and research scholars this morning under the aegis of Jigyasa- School � NML Interactive Programme. The basic aim of this programme is to acquaint them to research environment.
The programme was schedule for three hours, which comprises, brief-up about programme, NML & CSIR documentary film show and laboratory visit.
Dr.P.N. Mishra, Principal Scientist, deliver welcome address and briefed about the programme and team member. Further talked about natural resources like minerals, ores, rock and its various application for the development of mineral based and various allied industries. Dr S.K. Mandal, Chief Scientist & Head, KRIT and also the coordinator of this programme discussed an overview of NML. The scientific activities of different division and further encouraged students to purse research field for broaden their knowledge. Dr A.K. Sahu, Senior Technical Officer gave a vote of thanks.
Further, a laboratory visit programme was organised, S.N. Hembram, Sr. Technical Officer has helped students for laboratory visit.
Soni Jha has nicely explained the role and activities of Analytical Chemistry Centre. The students were very much eager to know about different instruments and their application for chemical analysis of minerals, ores, slag etc.
Students further visited at creep testing units of MTE Division, Dr. S. Sivaprasad, Sr. Principal Scientist explained about the fatigue, creep, fractures prevailing in different types of industrial components. Students get exposure of different machine like Servo Hydro Testing Machine, Servo Electrical Machine and Furnace. It was observed that the students have shown keen interest and generate curiosity to gain new knowledge.
Dr. Manish Jha, Principal Scientist has explained with sample on the recycling of waste such as printed circuit boards, mobile phone, batteries, tube light and recycled products. Students raised questions during interactive period and get suitable reply.
Dr (Ms) PratimaMeshram, Scientist, explained about extraction of valuable metals like lithium, cobalt, rare earth metals from different types of batteries with sample demonstration.
Students were surprised to have a glance on the 69 years� history of NML at museum and they asked different question based on sample and poster pertaining to minerals based products and facilities.
During the concluding session, teachers and students requested for their next visit to the laboratory to gain deeper knowledge. Teachers expressed their view and they were satisfied to know about the consistent effort of NML towards the development of mankind. At last, teachers acknowledged and extend thanks to CSIR-NML authorities for providing such nice opportunity to visit this prestigious organization and observe various research facilities available at NML.
