Jamshedpur : A group of 70 science students of Graduate College For Women, Sakchi, Jamshedpur accompanied by their teacher visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur and interacted with the working scientists and research fellows under the aegis of faculty training and motivation, adoption of schools by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur sponsored by HRDG, CSIR, New Delhi.
While giving an overview of Indian Science and Technology to the students, Dr. N.G. Goswami, chief scientist, NML and co-ordinator of the programme said “We should look at things happening in and around us. We must have the passion to unearth the truth underlying a natural phenomena, then verify the same from the literature or global knowledge resources. This will take us to know further and these repetitive exercises automatically leads to an invention or a new phenomena in science world. This is how it goes on”.
The students were thrilled and attentive throughout the programme which comprised of presentations, lively discussions with scientists and research scholars, practical demonstrations, visit around the selective units of the laboratory. The entire programme was scheduled for three and a half hours.
Rishu Kumari, a motivated student said, “The visit to the lab has been an eye opener for me. Thank you CSIR-NML for this wonderful opportunity”.
Priyanka Poddar, a motivated student of Std. XI said, “I loved the fresh and lively atmosphere here. There is so much one can learn here. Everything that I saw was so very motivating”.
Konika Pramanick, Bhumika Kumari and Sapna Kumari,visiting students said, ” Our learning got refreshed and widened. We came to know about the progress of Indian science in various fields.”
“Through the interaction I learnt about several branches of Science & Technology which offers a wide variety of career choices. Thus, time has come to start thinking beyond being a doctor or an engineer. There is lot more that can be accomplished and now I am very clear about this”, said Anjali Kumari, a student.
The participating students expressed their excitement and happiness over the laboratory visit as well as interaction with the scientists and working research scholars and suggested further interaction in near future.
