Jamshedpur: The election campaign programme organized by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in Sarjamda turned out to be a low-key affair as the star campaigner of the party and former Chief Minister Sibu Soren did not arrive in a last-minute change of schedule.
Niroop Mohanty, party candidate from Jamshedpur constituency for the Lok Sabha election, was accompanied by a handful of party workers. The dismal turnout of people at the programme made it a lacklustre event much to the dismay of Mohanty and other party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Mohanty tried to throw light on his old association with the city and its people. He said many good things could be introduced in the city as there was still much scope for development. He said if elected he will focus on development of the constituency and live up to the expectations of the people.
Contrary to claims of unity by various United Progressive Alliance leaders, the unity was conspicuous by its absence as many Congress leaders were absent during the programme. Only few JMM leaders were there. But they too, moved away when Guruji did not arrive as expected on his return from Orissa.
Party sources said they were informed very late about the change in the schedule of the JMM president. They said hectic schedule of Guruji could have led to the cancellation of his arrival.
