Jamshedpur : A group of 65 (Std. IX & X) students of A.D.L. Society High School, Sakchi Jamshedpur accompanied by two teachers Manoj Kumar Pandey and Indrajeet Pratap Singh visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur today and interacted with the working scientists and research fellows under the aegis of faculty training and motivation, adoption of schools by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur sponsored by HRDG, CSIR, New Delhi.
Dr. N.G. Goswami, CSIR-NML Chief Scientist and Co-ordinator of the programme motivated the students by citing live examples from the scientific field and innovative research, how it affects our life, environment and society. Most of the students said that the interaction was very informative and brought about lot of ideas. Teachers and many students requested for their next visit to the laboratory.
“The visit to the laboratory and interaction with the scientists here helped to get a glimpse of the scientific developments around and will help me in better understanding of the subject. Thanks to CSIR-NML”, said Nazmi Tabassum, a student of Std. X. “We learnt about the scientific research and new technology and now we have a clear idea about the extraction of metals”, remarked the visiting students Shahin Parveen, Sujata Kumari and Satyam Kumar. Kajol Kumari a student of Std. X said, “What interested me the most was the recovery of metals from the electronic wastes.
Lithium is such
an important content in the medicine that helps to carry signals to the brain, I did not know earlier. I am indeed very happy to see that CSIR-NML is working in the recycling of Lithium from electronic wastes”.
Divya Dutta a student of Std. IX said, “The programme has helped a lot in the development of scientific temperament and enrichment of knowledge”. “Through the programme I learnt about the contributions of CSIR in different branches of science and technology and how common mass are getting benefitted. I hardly had any idea about it earlier.
Further it taught me to how to take science from a different perspective”, said Durgesh Kumar, a student of Std. X. “The entire programme was really very beneficial. It was very well coordinated.
In fact it was a wonderful experience rejuvenating my thought process”, said Md. Shamar Iqbal, a student of Std. X. Nidhi Kumari a student of Std. IX said, “The presentations on science and technology was extremely useful. I learnt a lot of new things”. “I could clarify my doubts regarding scientific concepts through the programme.
Thanks to CSIR-NML for this wonderful opportunity”, said Priyanka Kumari Jha, a student of Std. IX. It may be mentioned here that he programme has been designed by CSIR-NML to give the students an exposure to modern laboratory conditions and learn to apply the various facets of science in our day to day activities.
The programme included a talk comprising of an overview of Indian Science and Technology, motivational video clippings on science, Documentary film show on CSIR and NML, practical demonstrations, lively discussion, visit around the selective units of the laboratory/NML Museum/ Archive.
