Jamshedpur, Feb 5: If passport verification is not completed within five days, the investigating police officer will be held accountable, as per a new directive issued by SSP Kishore Kaushal. The order applies to all police stations in East Singhbhum, instructing officers to process applications promptly and ensure that applicants are not unnecessarily harassed.
SSP Kaushal emphasized that if any applicant faces undue delays or difficulties, the police station in-charge will also be answerable. Currently, around 3,000 passport applications are processed every month in the district. The verification process involves a background check by local police officers to confirm the applicant’s residential details, match their photograph with the application and gather any other necessary information.
The process is conducted online, with applications first reaching the Foreign Branch department at the SSP office in Jamshedpur. From there, they are sent to the respective police stations for verification before being returned to the Foreign Branch post-investigation.
“The job of the police is to maintain a smooth system,” said SSP Kishore Kaushal, adding that strict action will be taken against officers found delaying or harassing applicants.
