Chaibasa (IANS): A 65-year-old woman was killed by her brother-in-law in Kasia village, just days after he completed a life sentence for murdering his wife. The brutal assault has shocked the Tantnagar area of West Singhbhum district, highlighting the suspect’s return to violent crime.
Suspicious Discovery and Village Intervention
Family members found the body of Parvati Bhumij inside her room on Monday morning and assumed she died of natural causes. As they prepared for her last rites, relatives noticed deep bruising and injury marks on her neck and cheeks. These signs prompted the community to convene a village meeting, where residents decided to halt the funeral and alert the police.
Confession and Evidence Recovery
A team from the Tantnagar Police Outpost arrived swiftly and detained the victim’s brother-in-law, Dulai Bhumij, based on suspicion. During interrogation, Dulai confessed to the murder. Following his statement, police recovered a wooden stick he allegedly used to beat the elderly woman to death. Authorities sent the body to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
A Violent Criminal History
Police records reveal that Dulai Bhumij is a habitual offender. In 2011, he murdered his wife, Indravati Bhumij, with a grinding stone. After serving a life sentence for that conviction, he recently returned to the village, only to commit this latest atrocity.
While the motive remains unclear, investigators continue to question Dulai to establish the sequence of events. The incident has sparked significant anger among villagers, who are demanding maximum punishment for the repeat offender.
