Jamshedpur, May 28: The city is abuzz with soil testing activities as preparations for the construction of two flyovers are underway. One of these projects involves the development of a four-lane flyover connecting Mango to Sakchi, while the other spans between Pardih and Baliguma on NH-33. Officials overseeing the projects are unable to provide a definitive timeline for the completion of soil testing for the Mango-Sakchi flyover. They explain that upon the conclusion of the soil testing phase, the design will be submitted to the Road Construction Department by the joint venture company of consultants Dinesh Chandra Aggarwal and Ibra ISKCON. Following approval from the Road Construction Department, construction will commence. This particular flyover, spanning 3.4 kilometers, is slated to be completed within 18 months at an estimated cost of Rs 252 crore. Soil samples have been procured from approximately 16 locations, including sites near Gandhi Ghat Park and the Mango Chhota Bridge. Additionally, samples collected from the riverbed have been sent to laboratories for analysis. Soil testers have drilled to depths of up to 75 feet to gather comprehensive data. Departmental engineers emphasize that soil testing is crucial for determining the depth at which solid rock formations exist beneath the surface. This information aids in ensuring the structural integrity of the flyover pillars.
Meanwhile, HG Infra Engineering has secured the contract as the lowest bidder from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the construction of a 10.021 km long flyover. Valued at approximately Rs 690 crore, this four-lane flyover is expected to be completed within two and a half years. Once soil testing is finalized, HG Infra Engineering will present the design to NHAI for approval, with construction anticipated to commence in July.
