Jamshedpur Bandh: People Rally Over DD Bar Murder in Bistupur

Jamshedpur: Tensions flared in the steel city on Thursday evening as hundreds of citizens took to the streets in a massive procession to protest the recent DD Bar murder case. Spearheaded by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, the protest serves as a precursor to the upcoming Jamshedpur Bandh scheduled for Friday, July 3, called to protest the city’s collapsing law and order situation.

The rally commenced from the Michael John Auditorium, traversed through the bustling Bistupur Main Road, and culminated back at the auditorium.

Cross-Party and Community Solidarity

The procession witnessed a big turnout, including a significant number of women, representatives from various political factions, and social organizations.

Protesters marched with torches and placards, demanding swift justice for Himanshu Singh, the Karni Sena leader who was killed in the DD Bar incident. The air resonated with high-decibel slogans targeting the local administration.

Kolhan University Postpones Exams Ahead of Bandh

Roy said that the shutdown has garnered widespread support, noting that Kolhan University has postponed all examinations scheduled for July 3 following his appeal.

Roy emphasized that while the city will come to a halt tomorrow, essential services have been completely exempted from the purview of the bandh to avoid public hardship. He added that tomorrow’s shutdown would be “spontaneous and self-driven” by the residents who are frustrated with the current state of affairs.

Blatant Police Negligence Alleged

Launching a scathing attack on the local law enforcement, Roy held the police directly responsible for the tragedy.

“If the police had acted quickly, we wouldn’t have been forced to take to the streets today. We lost Himanshu Singh solely due to the sluggish, careless, and negligent attitude of the police administration,” Roy stated.

He further alleged that local police have practically granted a “free license” to criminals and anti-social elements to run illegal businesses.

“A Direct Warning to the Government”

“Crime in Jamshedpur has escalated. Stabbings and violent attacks have become common. Illegal hangouts and illicit liquor trades are running safely because the police are sheltering these syndicates.”

Roy added that the July 3 Jamshedpur Bandh is aimed entirely at pulling the city’s derailed law and order back on track. “This bandh is a direct warning to the state government. If anything goes wrong from here on, the accountability lies squarely with the government,” he warned.
