Social responsibility to ensure child nutrition: Joba Majhi

Seraikela, August 8: “Once the importance of a mother’s role is understood, malnutrition problems will evaporate. It is a common responsibility for all of us to ensure nutritious food to children. As for breast feeding, it is the best source of nutrition and development of a child’s mental and physical health. A child should be nurtured on breast milk for at least six months,” observed Jharkhand Minister for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Joba Majhi in her address during the closing ceremony of World Breast Feeding Week organized at the Upgraded middle School in Tangrain. Chief Guest Joba Majhi inaugurated the closing ceremony by lighting the traditional lamp.

In her address she further stated that it was the responsibility of the social welfare department to handle and groom society from birth to old age. For a malnutrition free society, it should be the responsibility of all to provide nutritious food to all children. She appealed to all the Anganwadi workers and the Didis working under the Social Welfare Department to share information related to nutritious diet to the lactating mothers and children in their jurisdiction. “It is the responsibility of the entire department to identify the malnourished children of the district and provide them with balanced and nutritious food. In the coming days, eggs will be given to the children at the Anganwadi centers to provide a balanced diet. The government is determined to eliminate malnourishment,” Joba Majhi said.
She asked all Anganwadi Sahaiyas, Sevikas and Didis to make girls and women aware of nutritious food and its importance. Joba Majhi also directed Saraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Arava Rajkamal to review the work being done under Tejaswini Project and provide her with a report.
The Minister assured that senior officials from state to district levels were always ready to cooperate for the development activities being carried out under the Social Welfare Department especially in the realms of nutrition.
 Earlier, DC Arava Rajkamal welcomed the Chief Guest, Jharkhand Minister Joba Majhi with a sapling.
During the program, Minister Joba Majhi, Director of Jharkhand Tourism A Dodde and DC Arava Rajkamal jointly gave baby showers to 5 pregnant women and two children were fed nutritious food. 
Two beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojna, 3 of Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan Yojna, 5 of Mukhya Mantri Sukanya Yojna and children orphaned due to bread winners dying due to COVID infection would be eligible recipients of Rs 2,000 per month were presented the initial cheques during the programme.
DDC Praveen Gagrai, ITDA Director Sandeep Doraiburu, DRDA PD Uma Mahto and other officials were present on the occasion.
