Severe heat wave hits Jharkhand, Jamshedpur among 11 districts on orange alert

Jamshedpur, April 28: The heat wave gripping Jharkhand has intensified, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for 11 districts, including Jamshedpur. Residents brace themselves for scorching temperatures over the next three days, as confirmed by meteorologists. Abhishek Anand, the head of the Ranchi-based weather center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cautioned that temperatures are set to rise further in the coming days, urging people to exercise caution. Seraikela emerged as the hottest place in Jharkhand over the last 24 hours, with the mercury soaring to 45 degrees Celsius. Anand forecasted a potential 2-degree increase in maximum temperatures over the next 4-5 days.

The meteorologist also indicated that while the sky may be partly cloudy on April 28, residents should not expect relief from the sweltering heat, as dry conditions persist. Severe heat wave conditions are anticipated in districts such as East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Dumka, Pakur, Godda, and Sahibganj on April 27, with an orange alert issued for these areas. Additionally, heat wave conditions are expected in West Singhbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and Deoghar, prompting a yellow alert for these districts. Similar conditions are forecasted for April 28, with severe heat wave conditions extending to 10 districts and heat wave conditions in 4 districts.

The scorching temperatures are expected to persist on April 29 and 30, with severe heat wave conditions anticipated in several districts, prompting an orange alert. The situation is expected to improve slightly by May 1, with heat wave conditions restricted to selected areas. Ranchi, the capital city, is also set to experience high temperatures, with partly cloudy skies and dry weather prevailing.
