Jamshedpur, Oct 11: The Department of History, Karim City College, today organized a student seminar and presentation competition on the theme “India’s Unsung Freedom Fighters.” The event sought to shed light on the lesser-known heroes of India’s freedom struggle and to encourage young historians to explore their stories through research and critical analysis.
The program was held under the guidance of Dr. Kausar Tasneem, Head of the Department of History, and Dr. Mohammad Shahnawaz. The presentations were evaluated by Dr. B.N. Tripathi, who served as the judge for the competition.
First-semester History students participated enthusiastically, presenting on various unsung heroes who made significant contributions to India’s independence but remain underrepresented in mainstream history. Through their detailed accounts and creative storytelling, students brought to life the courage and sacrifices of these forgotten figures.
Among the participants, Yusra Laraib stood out for her well-researched presentation and clear articulation, earning her the Best Speaker Award.
Speaking on the occasion, faculty members emphasized the need to expand historical understanding beyond widely known figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Bhagat Singh, to include the stories of countless others who played pivotal roles at regional and grassroots levels.
