Karim City College observes International Day of the Girl Child

Jamshedpur: The Women’s Cell of Karim City College organized a special program to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, focusing on gender equality, women’s safety, and empowerment. The event brought together students and faculty for a series of thought-provoking discussions and presentations that explored women’s experiences and the societal structures affecting them.

Student speakers presented diverse perspectives on women’s issues. Ayushmaan Sharma (Semester 3) discussed Stockholm Syndrome and how women are often conditioned to accept oppression in familial and marital settings. Muskan Kumari (Semester 5) envisioned a future where gender equality becomes so embedded in society that special observances like this one would no longer be necessary. Harsh Jha (Semester 5) examined the philosophical origins of gender inequality, contrasting Plato’s advocacy for women’s intellectual potential with Aristotle’s patriarchal worldview. Rohit Sharma (Semester 1) also shared his reflections on the changing dynamics of gender in modern society.

Among the faculty speakers, Dr. Basudhara Roy emphasized that women today face dual challenges — those arising from both patriarchal traditions and capitalist structures. Dr. Kausar Tasneem and Dr. Anupama Mishra, members of the Women’s Cell, spoke passionately about the need to ensure freedom, equality, and opportunities for women in all spheres of life. Dr. Farzana Anjum added depth to the discussion by highlighting the intersection of social and cultural factors influencing women’s empowerment.
