Jamshedpur, May 13: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Secretary (Trade and Commerce) Anil Modi has written to the Union Civil Aviation Minister demanding a check on the unprecedented and arbitrary raise in air fare thereby putting businessmen and general flyers in a tight spot.

Referring to the suspension of Go First airline’s flights, Anil Modi claimed that all other air service providers were making hay by taking advantage of the situation and raising their fares arbitrarily. “Seeking such uncouth opportunities to enhance fares, the other airline companies have put traders and the general people in a difficult situation. Traders fly to different places for business purposes while general people who avail of flights to places down south or west of the country for treatment have been placed in a catch-22 situation where they have to make a toss between treatment expenses and flight costs,” the SCCI Secretary (Trade and Commerce) contended.

Anil Modi said that air tickets for Ranchi-Delhi flights used to cost between Rs Four and Five thousand but with the unprecedented rise in rates, air travelers were being forced to dish out anywhere between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000. In his letter to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Anil Modi has urged that airlines should be directed to avoid this arbitrary practice of raising air fares at the drop of a hat by fixing the upper limit for air tickets’ costs.
