Jamshedpur, June 27: State minister Saryu Roy met Union Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan in New Delhi on Thursday and demanded distribution of ration among the people of Jharkhand on the basis of the 2019 Census. He also sought additional supply of sugars for all ration card holders.

Paswan asked Roy to send him a letter so that the same could be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his approval.

Roy said currently the distribution of rice and wheat to states was being done on the basis of the 2011 Census. As per an estimate of NITI Aayog, the population of the country is increasing at the rate of 15 per cent every year. Keeping this annual increase in mind, the state government may distribute foodgrains to all 8.36 lakh ration card holders in Jharkhand, he said.

Roy also demanded that the per capita distribution of 5 kg rice and wheat be increased to 7 kg.

Paswan assured Roy to take up the matter with PM Modi.
