Inspects garbage dumping site in Marine Drive
Jamshedpur, January 19: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy on Thursday inspected the garbage dumping site along Marine Drive accompanied by residents of Sonari.
It has been published in the newspapers today that arrangements have been made by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) to extinguish the fire there, water tankers have been kept and guards have been arranged so that no one can start the fire. None of these measures were visible at the garbage dumping site and the smoke of fire was seen coming out from dozens of places.
An official statement from JNAC has been published in the newspaper that the site will be cordoned off and a park will be built here with the help of TSUISL.
“On the edge of this site, parallel to the Marine Drive road, iron structures was visible at some distance, as if the plan to erect pillars for fencing it was carried out but later stopped. In fact, JNAC had floated a tender for the fencing of this site one and a half years ago and the tender of a contractor was selected. Even the work started but due to the opposition of the then JUSCO, the work was stopped. Now again the special officer of JNAC is talking about fencing of this place. The question arises whether TSUISL has given consent for this,”said Roy.
“The question also arises as to who ordered the dumping of garbage at this place? This plot is under Tata Lease. Has Tata Land Department given no-objection to JNAC and Mango Municipal Corporation for dumping garbage at this location? As far as I know, no such objection has been received,” questioned Roy.
“While according to the rules of environmental and ecological protection, garbage cannot be dumped up to a distance of 100 meters from the river and 200 meters from the residential area. It seems that JNAC, the company and the district administration are showing that they are ready to compensate for the damage caused to the environment after a case was filed against it in the NGT,” added Roy.
Saryu Roy assured the citizens of Sonari that he was with them in their agitation.
“If the verdict of the NGT case comes, the guilty officers will definitely be punished, but till then this polluted and unhealthy situation is not tolerable. Citizen initiative is necessary to end it. The administration should stop the dumping of garbage here and dispose of the already dumped garbage without any delay,” said Roy.
