Jamshedpur, Aug 4: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy held a meeting with Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (formerly Jusco) over status of drinking water supply in urban slums located within and outside the company lease area.
It was decided that a joint survey would be conducted by Tata Steel UISL officials and representatives of the MLA so that problem of drinking water supply is sorted out.
Tata Steel UISL officials claimed that in the urban slums based within lease areas, a total of 3478 consumers were identified for getting water connections but only 2422 took connection form from Tata Steel UISL office and out of which only 1876 have submitted the filled up form at Tata Steel UISL office. After scrutiny 164 forms were found incomplete and 2346 connections have been given in slums like Ramadhin Bagan, Manifit, Mishra Bagan, Gwala Basti (Tar company), Azad Basti, Jit Singh Bagan, Namda Basti, Cable Town, Chaya Nagar, Carriage colony (Burmamines). Connections are also being given in Kishore Nagar, Indranagar, J P Nagar and Kalyan Nagar in Bhalubhasa.

It was decided that those areas where residents have not taken or submitted water connection forms a joint team of Tata Steel UISL and MLA representatives would carry out survey.

It was also claimed by Tata Steel UISL that they are making a scheme for providing water to residents of Babudih, Lalbhatta and Kanu Bhatta area in Bhuiyandih and the project construction work has already begun.

It was also claimed that work is on to remove water logging in Brahman Tola in Bhuiyandih. Work is also on to provide electricity in those areas which have not got connection so far.

In areas outside lease areas, through Moharda drinking water projects, around 5000 connections have been provided by Tata Steel UISL in over two years and work is on to provide more connections.

The MLA said that efforts should be made to provide potable water to all urban slums at the earliest and informed that a 12 member committee has been constituted by the MLA for collecting information from the slums and submit it to Tata Steel UISL.
