Gua : Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), now ramping up capacity to 24 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), plans to embark on the next phase of expansion to raise it further to 50mtpa by 2022 with Rs.1.2 trillion investment.
The state-owned steel maker, which currently has a 14mtpa capacity, said most of the planned expansion would be carried out through brownfield expansions in its existing five steel mills, barring one proposed at Sindri in Jharkhand.
SAIL celebrated 65 th Republic Day at Gua Club Ground. Ashok Kumar Verma, general manager, SAIL said that we are having our vision 2022, when the 13th Five-Year Plan ends, we will be having our capacity escalated to 50mtpa,”.
