SHCS sets up ‘Sugar Board’ to promote healthy eating among students
Jamshedpur, July 14: Sacred Heart Convent School (SHCS), Jamshedpur has taken a significant step toward promoting student health by installing a “Sugar Board” on its campus.

This innovative initiative aims to educate students about the recommended daily sugar intake, the hidden sugar content in everyday foods, and the health risks associated with excessive sugar consumption.

The Sugar Board, prominently displayed in the school cafeteria and other common areas, features infographics, comparison charts, and weekly updates highlighting the sugar levels in popular snacks and beverages.

The initiative is designed to empower students to make informed dietary choices and cultivate long-term healthy eating habits.

The move comes in response to a recent advisory from the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), which raised concerns over the increasing incidence of Type 2 diabetes among children. The CISCE has urged schools to create awareness through regular monitoring and education about sugar-related health risks.

In its circular, the council linked the growing trend of Type 2 diabetes in school children to excessive sugar consumption, especially from sugary items sold in and around school premises.

Schools have been advised to place sugar boards in high-visibility locations like cafeterias and classrooms. By implementing this recommendation, Sacred Heart Convent School is proactively addressing a pressing health issue and contributing to building a more health-conscious student community.

School authorities believe that small steps like these can bring about meaningful change in student awareness and overall well-being.
