RSB Group commits to 50% renewable energy, 45% emission cut by 2030

Jamshedpur: RSB Group has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to sustainable and responsible manufacturing by announcing ambitious climate targets, including the adoption of 50 percent renewable energy and a 45 percent reduction in emissions by the year 2030.

The commitments have been detailed in the Group’s newly released Sustainability Report, which chronicles over five decades of leadership in engineering and manufacturing while outlining a clear roadmap for low-carbon growth.

The Sustainability Report presents comprehensive performance data on energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste management, aligned with global reporting standards such as SEBI BRSR and GRI. It underscores that sustainability has been embedded in RSB’s work culture since its inception, shaping decisions across engineering, manufacturing, and operational excellence.

Over the past three years, RSB Group has achieved a 16 percent improvement in energy usage levels and reduced Scope One and Scope Two emissions by 17 percent compared to FY 2022-23. Total energy consumption stood at 264,850 gigajoules, reflecting a decline of nearly five percent during the period, while energy usage per tonne of production improved to 1.50 GJ. Greenhouse gas emissions were reduced to 48,137 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, with emission intensity declining to 0.27 tonnes per tonne of production. The report also notes a significant 25 percent reduction in certain emission categories during the same timeframe.

A key highlight of the report is RSB’s five-year decarbonisation roadmap, which focuses on renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency initiatives, and deployment of low-carbon technologies. Along with the target of 50 percent renewable energy adoption, the Group has also set a goal of achieving 60 percent water neutrality by 2030.

Chairman RK Behera said that the sustainability journey of RSB is driven by measurable, factory-level actions aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and ensuring responsible water and waste management. He stated that the Group’s 4P framework — Purpose, People, Process, and Planet — defines how its operations are designed and executed, and that disciplined processes and a committed workforce have translated sustainability intent into tangible results.

Vice Chairman SK Behera emphasized that sustainability at RSB is deeply integrated across the value chain rather than being treated as a standalone initiative. He added that every decision, from product design and engineering to manufacturing, logistics, and delivery, is evaluated through the lens of efficiency, responsibility, and long-term impact, forming the foundation of resilient and future-ready manufacturing systems.

The report also highlights strong progress in water and waste management. Water usage improved to 0.61 kilolitres per tonne of production in FY 2024-25, marking a four percent year-on-year efficiency gain. Nearly 97 percent of total waste generated across operations was diverted from landfills through structured waste management practices.
