Festive cheer lights up Jamshedpur, Christmas Eve gathering held at the Birsanagar Sunday Market

Jamshedpur: The Steel City is wrapped in festive cheer as Christmas celebrations fill the air with joy, devotion, and togetherness. As residents prepare to mark the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25, streets across the city are glowing with decorative lights, churches are echoing with hymns and prayers, and elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peaceful and orderly festivities.

Churches across Jamshedpur are witnessing heightened activity as they prepare to welcome thousands of devotees for Christmas services. Early morning prayers, beginning at 8:00 am, are expected to draw large congregations to prominent places of worship, including Beldih Baptist Church and St. George’s Church in Northern Town, GEL Church in Sonari and Sitaramdera, St. Mark Church in Mango, and the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Telco. Special prayers, carol singing, and sermons highlighting the message of love, peace, and hope are central to the celebrations.

Adding to the festive spirit, the Birsanagar Youth Christian Association (BYCA) organized a grand Christmas Eve gathering at the Birsanagar Sunday Market on Tuesday evening. The event, a cherished tradition in the locality, has been held every year since 1978 and remains a symbol of unity and cultural harmony.

BYCA President Wilson Topno, also a music teacher at RVS Academy, said the tradition was initiated during his grandfather’s time and has been carried forward with dedication every year. He said the primary aim of the programme is to spread the values of love, peace, and harmony across society. He added that music competitions for children are organized to nurture hidden talent and encourage creativity, while messages related to the birth of Jesus Christ and his teachings of compassion and humanity are shared with the community.

Topno announced that BYCA will celebrate its Golden Jubilee next year, which is planned as a grand carnival, and extended warm Christmas greetings to the entire Christian community. He also appealed to people of all faiths to live together in mutual respect and harmony.

BYCA Vice President Amit Tirru, Secretary Ronald, Rajiv Sisingi, Rohit, along with several association members and local residents, were present on the occasion, contributing to the vibrant and joyous atmosphere that marks Christmas in the Steel City.
