Jamshedpur, April 1: A major theft has been reported at the LIC office in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, where thieves broke open the office safe and stole over Rs 55 lakh.

The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when employees arrived at the office and discovered the safe’s lock broken, with cash missing and items scattered. Adding to the shock, CCTV footage from the premises was also found missing, raising concerns about the perpetrators’ inside knowledge.

LIC officials were left stunned by the scale of the theft. Senior Branch Manager Rajesh Rajan Sinha immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. A forensic team also reached the office to collect fingerprints and other evidence. Police have begun questioning employees to determine who had access to the office keys and are closely examining all angles of the case.

Possible Insider Involvement Suspected
Authorities suspect that individuals familiar with the office operations might be involved, as the thieves not only managed to break the safe but also removed the CCTV DVR, erasing any potential footage of the crime. “The manner in which the crime was executed suggests prior knowledge of the office’s security system,” said a police official.

The theft occurred during an extended holiday period when the office remained closed for three days due to Eid and Sarhul celebrations. As banks were also shut, the accumulated cash could not be deposited, making it an easy target for the culprits.

Police Investigation Underway
Law enforcement agencies are treating this case as a high-priority investigation. The police technical team is working to recover any possible digital evidence, and a search operation is underway to trace the missing CCTV records. Employees are being questioned to gather leads, and authorities believe the case will be solved soon.

Meanwhile, LIC officials have tightened security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The theft has caused panic among the staff, with many expressing concerns over safety lapses in the office premises.

As the investigation continues, the police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward.

Further updates are expected as authorities make progress in solving this high-profile theft.
