Jamshedpur, Dec 15: In a case of alleged extortion-related crime, miscreants broke into a flat at Sai Complex in Baliguma under MGM police station area on Sunday night, decamping with Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and indulging in extensive vandalism inside the apartment.
The incident occurred around 10 pm when the accused allegedly broke open the lock of the flat owned by Nitish Kumar.
The victim has accused Adityapur resident Ashok Kumar Manjhi, alongwith Deepak Gupta of Mango and 10–15 others, of carrying out the crime after he refused to pay extortion money.
A written complaint has been lodged at MGM police station.
According to Nitish Kumar, a native of Latehar district, he has been residing in the third-floor flat of Sai Complex for the past seven years.
He runs a company named NK Enterprises, engaged in the online trading of heavy vehicles such as Hyvas and poclains.
He alleged that Ashok Manjhi had been repeatedly calling him over the past three to four days, demanding extortion money and issuing threats of abduction if the demand was not met.
The victim stated that due to continuous threats, he had asked Ashok Manjhi to meet him at Sakchi around 7 pm on Sunday, but he could not reach the spot due to prior engagements.
Later in the night, residents of the society informed him that a group of people had forcibly entered his flat and were vandalising it.
Eyewitnesses reportedly told the victim that the accused arrived in three Scorpio vehicles bearing Bihar registration numbers and another SUV with a Jharkhand registration number.
On reaching the flat, Nitish Kumar informed the police and alleged that the miscreants were armed during the incident.
The entire episode was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the housing complex.
Police have registered a case of theft and vandalism and are examining the CCTV footage to identify and arrest the accused. Investigation is underway.
