Rs 2000 reward for people helping accident victims in Jamshedpur

Road safety drive: Rs 2000 reward for good Samaritans

DTO Dhananjay Promotes Good Samaritan Policy, Urges Public to Aid Accident Victims

Jamshedpur: An extensive campaign is underway across the city to mark Road Safety Month – 2025. This initiative aims to raise awareness about traffic rules and foster responsible road behavior among citizens. The campaign has been implemented across major public squares, bus stands, and block areas in the district.

Led by District Transport Officer (DTO)  Dhananjay, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI)  Nishant Mahato, and supported by road safety advocate  Ishwar Lal Sao, the District Road Safety Team has been engaging with the public through creative and informative activities. A standout initiative was the awareness drive conducted at the Mango Bus Stand, which featured impactful street plays to convey critical road safety messages.

At the Mango Bus Stand event, DTO  Dhananjay urged citizens to embrace their civic duty by assisting road accident victims. He emphasized the Good Samaritan Policy, which ensures protection and recognition for those who help accident victims. “Do not hesitate to help an injured person. The government not only assures you of safety from legal proceedings but also offers a reward of ₹2000 and a certificate of appreciation,” he said.

The campaign also emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules. Drivers were reminded to always wear seat belts in four-wheelers and helmets in two-wheelers. The organizers urged vehicle operators and passengers to exercise caution to prevent accidents and save lives.

The campaign extends beyond urban areas, with efforts focused on rural and block-level outreach. Street plays—a central feature of the campaign—are being performed in block areas to create an engaging and relatable medium for sharing traffic safety messages. Alongside this, handbills, pamphlets, and booklets are being distributed to reinforce these messages in written form.

This multi-pronged approach aims to educate and empower the community about the importance of road safety. The street plays, which creatively depict real-life scenarios of traffic violations and their consequences, have resonated strongly with audiences.

The ongoing efforts have sparked positive responses from the public. Drivers and pedestrians alike have shown enthusiasm in participating in discussions and learning sessions conducted by the road safety team. The campaign also highlights the district administration’s commitment to reducing road accidents and fostering a culture of safety.

As Road Safety Month – 2025 progresses, the District Road Safety Team plans to intensify its outreach, ensuring that the message of safe and responsible road behavior reaches every corner of the district. This initiative not only underscores the importance of traffic discipline but also reinforces the community’s role in creating safer roads for everyone.
