Rohan Shandilya wins 5th Jharkhand Open Rapid chess title

Jamshedpur, June 23: The prize distribution ceremony of the 5th Jharkhand Open Rapid Chess Competition (Category-B), organised by the Seraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association, concluded with grandeur at Arka Jain University, Gamharia. A total of 221 participants from across the state took part in this prestigious state-level tournament, making it a vibrant celebration of chess talent.

Deputy Commissioner of Seraikela-Kharsawan, Nitish Kumar Singh, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. He felicitated the winners and encouraged all participants, highlighting how a strategic game like chess enhances logic, discipline, and mental sharpness among the youth.

President of the Seraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association, Manoj Kumar, lauded the participants for their performance and announced plans to organise more high-level chess tournaments in the future.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Gamharia Circle Officer, N.K. Singh (former President of the All Jharkhand Chess Association), Amit Srivastava (Director, Arka Jain University), Richa Garg (CFO), Vice President Shailendra Kumar, Binod Singh, Abhishek Das, and Suraj Bhandani. Together, they distributed prizes to the winners across different categories.

The competition was conducted successfully and fairly under the supervision of IA/IM Neeraj Kumar Mishra, who served as the Chief Arbiter.

In the Category-B Open category, Rohan Vijay Shandilya from East Singhbhum secured first place with 8 points, winning a cash prize of ₹7,000 and a trophy. Vibhas Kumar Sinha of Ranchi claimed second place with a prize of ₹6,000, while Manish Sharma from West Singhbhum finished third.

Cash prizes totaling ₹50,000 were distributed among the top 20 winners. Additionally, trophies were awarded to the top three players in each age group (Under-8, 10, 12, 14, and 16) for both boys and girls. All participants received e-certificates as a token of appreciation and encouragement.
