Relief for Rahul Gandhi in defamation case against Amit Shah

Ranchi: In a significant development, the Jharkhand High Court has provided a major reprieve to Rahul Gandhi, the former National President of Congress and current Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad, Kerala. Following a petition filed in connection with indecent remarks made by Gandhi against Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah during the 2018 Congress General Conference in Delhi, the High Court ruled against any coercive action.
Justice Ambuj Nath’s court, presiding over the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, directed the submission of records related to the lower court’s decision after hearing the petition on Friday (January 5). The controversy stemmed from remarks made by Gandhi, where he asserted that only in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could a murderer become the national president, contrasting the practice within the Congress.

The defamation case against Rahul Gandhi was filed in 2019 by Naveen Jha, a citizen aggrieved by the comments made during the Congress General Conference in 2018. The Jharkhand High Court’s decision ensures that Rahul Gandhi is protected from coercive actions in this particular case, providing relief amid ongoing legal proceedings.
