Rejuvenated Jamshedpur FC look to break Bengaluru’s winning streak

Jamshedpur, Jan 17: Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC will lock horns in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Wednesday. The Red Miners will aim to go level on points with East Bengal FC, while the Blues will be eager to clinch three points and cut the deficit to the final playoff spot down to a single point.

A ten-game winless streak was laid to rest by Jamshedpur FC last week when they overcame East Bengal FC with a rousing comeback win, turning the tables after going a goal down, to earn their second victory of the season.

Addressing a press meet at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Tuesday, Jamshedpur FC Head coach Aidy Boothroyd said, “The win against East Bengal was very satisfying. We’ve been very close to winning especially at home but to score in the way we did in the last few mins of the game meant we just kept pushing and pushing and we have to use that aggression through the game which we haven’t been doing. We’ve been lacking in confidence but I saw a renewed confidence and maturity and we were well worth the three points.”

“Delighted with Ritwik Das and his three goals in two games. They were different goals as well, one with a dribble and next was with a header so that was great to see he was brave to get on the end of the cross and win the game for us,” coach added.

“I’m in a very good and difficult position because I have one very experienced goalkeeper in TP Rehenesh who has done very well and had a good career and another who is very young and has exceptional gifts especially his mindset which is very focused and it’s a nice problem to have.

“Germanpreet is back from injury and he gave a cross for the goal last time. Dylan Fox has had some small injuries which we’re monitoring and hopefully we can get him fit in the next few days,” Boothroyd stated.

“The crowd will have the same expectations as me. Everyone likes a winning team and won that works for each other and the supporters know that. We have to keep doing what we’re doing, push hard and win every game especially at home and then I think crowds will come back because they want to see the win as do I,” head coach signed off.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC are building momentum after securing two back-to-back wins for the first time this season. The Blues scored more than two goals for the first time in this edition of the Hero ISL when they beat Odisha FC 3-1 just three days ago.
