Rally organized to prevent discrimination against non-Adivasis

Seraikela, Dec 4: Members of Ekta Vikas Manch and residents of Gamahria took out a procession to protest against discrimination against non-Adivasis in the state. The procession started at Gamharia Durga Puja ground and reached the local block office. Hundreds of people were present during the procession.

Addressing the gathering, the outfit central president AK Mishra said non-Adivasis were being tortured and harassed in the state. He said the non-Adivasis faced discrimination in the name of Khatiyan, domicility, language or other issues. He said the state government should guarantee the rights and security of the non-Adivasis population.

Mishra demanded that the state government should implement the domicile policy with 15th November 2000 as the cut-off date for giving domicile status to all citizens. This would end the ongoing discrimination against the non-Adivasis, he said.

The protestors demanded revocation of the Domicile Policy based on the1932 Khatiyan. They said reserving single posts in the municipal corporation would result in further discrimination and hence it should be revoked.

Mishra said the state government should conduct the municipal elections on the basis of population and roster system.

Mishra, who led the procession, further said it was the duty of the police to secure the safety of all individuals living within its territory.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Pawan Pandey, Vijay Vasani Pandey, Jitendra Mishra and DR PK Singh.
