Jamshedpur: Protesting persistent delays in passenger train services, the Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti has announced a signature campaign at Tatanagar Railway Station on April 26.
The decision was taken at a crucial meeting held in Cable Town on Thursday, attended by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy.
Addressing the gathering, Roy outlined strategies to ensure the campaign’s success and smooth execution. He suggested forming teams of 15 volunteers each, who will cover every platform of Tatanagar Junction to collect feedback from passengers. Pamphlets containing QR codes will also be distributed, allowing commuters to share their grievances digitally.
A whiteboard will be installed outside the station premises to gather signatures from passengers supporting the cause.
The meeting also highlighted the inconvenience faced by commuters from Ghatshila, where several trains fail to halt despite high passenger demand. Participants pointed out that delayed arrivals at Tatanagar further extend travel time for such passengers.
Serious concerns were raised over the prioritisation of goods trains over passenger trains.
Questions were posed regarding whether such decisions were taken by the DRM, Railway Board, or the General Manager, and whether any official circular exists. The Chakradharpur Division’s DRM was urged to provide clarity.
Among those present were Samiti convenor Shiv Shankar Singh, Subodh Srivastava, Neeraj Singh, Ajay Kumar and several others.
Meanwhile, a parallel meeting of the JD(U) metropolitan unit was held to strengthen preparations for the April 26 programme. City president Ajay Kumar emphasised enhancing the outreach of the campaign, while East Singhbhum district president Subodh Srivastava suggested extensive mobilisation through team-based efforts.
Convenor Shiv Shankar Singh appealed to citizens and social organisations to assemble at Tatanagar Railway Station at 9:30 am on April 26 and actively participate in the movement
