Jamshedpur, June 4: In a significant step towards resolving the drinking water crisis in the Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency, MLA Purnima Sahu laid the foundation stone for various development works under Phase-2 of the Moharda Water Supply Scheme at Sugana Colony in Baridih on Wednesday. The initiative aimed to provide clean and regular drinking water to underserved areas across Birsanagar, Bagunhatu, and Baridih.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Krishna Kumar, MLA representative Gunjan Yadav, Chief of Moharda Water Supply Scheme Abhishek Dubey, along with several senior officials, local BJP leaders, and party workers.
As part of Phase-2, two major water storage tanks will be constructed, one with a capacity of 2.4 lakh liters near Bhuvaneshwari Mata Temple in the Telco area, and another with a capacity of 1.25 lakh liters near the old GSR in Birsanagar. These tanks will be linked through a 9-kilometer-long pipeline network ensuring that drinking water reached areas currently lacking pipeline connectivity.
The Rs 7.77 crore project is expected to be completed within 18 months and is projected to benefit approximately 1,500 households, significantly improving the quality of life for thousands of residents.
Among the localities set to benefit are Gitti Maidan, BYWC Ground, Lal Tand, Shiv Sai Mandir, Sindhu Colony, Om Nagar, Bagunhatu Road Nos. 2, 5, and 6, Ashu Colony, Suvar Maidan, and areas near landmarks such as Rockford Public School, TVS Showroom, and Sarita Apartment.
Speaking to the media, MLA Purnima Sahu emphasized the importance of the project, calling it a “boon” for the people of Jamshedpur East. She reiterated her commitment to ensuring access to clean and regular drinking water for every household, adding that the project would ease the daily struggles of residents and improve public health and hygiene.
Local leaders including Pawan Agarwal, Bablu Gope, Boltu Sarkar, Santosh Thakur, and others were also present to support the initiative.
