Protest Brewing in Kolhan University as TAKU Opposes Reduction in Teachers’ Leave; Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh to Lead the Charge

Jamshedpur: The Teachers Association of Kolhan University (TAKU) convened its general meeting at Jamshedpur Co-operative College on Saturday, presided over by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Vice President of TAKU. In this gathering of educators, TAKU General Secretary Prof. Indal Paswan presented a comprehensive report on the association’s activities over the last three years, with 40 members from various colleges in attendance.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included the contentious reduction in teachers’ leave and restricted holidays by Kolhan University, the selection of the working president, the pending promotion process, and the constitution of an election committee for the upcoming TAKU executive formation.
Expressing unanimous condemnation, the members present vehemently opposed the reduction and restriction of holidays for teachers, attributing these decisions to Raj Bhavan. They labeled these actions as detrimental to the social harmony and educational fabric of the state.
TAKU, in response, declared its intention to oppose these measures in a phased manner, with plans for a mass strike and a potential legal recourse if necessary. Teachers plan to protest by wearing art badges as soon as the college reopens. A delegation of teachers is scheduled to meet with the Vice Chancellor within a week to submit a memorandum outlining their grievances.
In a significant development, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, the current Vice President of TAKU, has been nominated as the acting President until the formation of the next TAKU executive. The current executive’s tenure is set to conclude in February, prompting the establishment of a five-member election committee. Led by Dr. Naresh Kumar as the chairman, the committee includes Dr. Sanjay Yadav, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh, Prof. Anamika Kumar, and Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh as members to oversee the election process.
